Thanks for this useful top I'm getting rid of the fishy smell, that i hate while preparing fish. Can't wait to.try it :-)

Can i ask for step 1, when you salt the fish n place on steamer/wire rack ? Do you means to steam the fish for 10mins OR to just rest it there for the water to be drawn out by the salting process ?

Thanks, Koh

In reply to <a href="https://www.budgetpantry.com/airfried-batang-fish-in-black-pepper-sauce/#comment-2242">Mary Ann Sia</a>.

Hi Mary Ann, sorry for the late reply! Hmm.. honestly, it is hard to achieve really, really crunchy and crispy effect in the airfryer. If you check out my post on fried fish fillets (which I dunked in soup later), you could achieve crispy effect but not so much CRUNCHY as you really need heated oil to get things crunchy and crisp. The post is here: https://budgetpantry.com/fried-fish-bee-hoon/ For that recipe, I used corn flour, but you could also do a 1:1 mix of corn flour and self-raising flour. I find that self-raising flour does increase the crispiness in subsequent recipes I've tried. If you do try it, ensure that the end product is not drowned in sauce and eat it immediately after it's done. Good luck!

[…] A lot of times when I cook fish, especially frozen batang/ kite fish, I get put off by the stinky odour. The odour doesn’t mean that the fish has gone bad though. Find out how to get rid of it in this post. […]
